Privacy policy
Updated 26 October 2026. Hanger is operated by Luke Mulholland, British Columbia, Canada.
The short version
Your closet lives on your phone. Photos only leave it for the AI features you use (tagging, enhancing, try-on and the stylist), which pass through our server to an AI provider (Anthropic or OpenAI) and come straight back. If you sign in with Apple, your closet is also kept in private storage that only your account can open, so it can sync between your devices. Nobody else, including other Hanger users, can see it. No ads, no tracking, and we never sell your data.
On your phone
- Photos you add. You choose photos from your library or take them with the camera. Hanger only sees the photos you pick.
- Cut-outs. Removing the background from a photo of a piece happens on your phone, using Apple's on-device image tools.
- Your closet. Pieces, their names, brands and details, outfits, categories, your name and your try-on photo are stored in the app on your phone. Without an account they stay there.
- Saving images. Hanger adds an image to your photo library only when you choose Save Image.
Photos sent for the AI features
Hanger asks your permission in the app before the first photo is sent to an AI provider, and sends nothing to them until you allow it. These features send data through our server to an AI provider, which does the work and sends the result back. Tagging a piece and the AI stylist use Anthropic's Claude, or OpenAI if Claude is unavailable. Enhance, try-on and finding the pieces in an outfit photo use OpenAI. Our server doesn't keep the photos or the results.
- Tagging. When you add a piece, a small copy of its picture is sent to suggest its category, name, colours, season and style, and a brand only if a logo is visible. If you add pieces from a photo of yourself wearing an outfit, that photo is sent to OpenAI to find each piece in it.
- Enhance. The piece's picture is sent to be redrawn as a clean product photo.
- Try-on. Your try-on photo (a photo of you) and the pictures of the outfit's pieces are sent to make an image of you wearing the outfit.
- AI stylist (Hanger Plus). A text list of your pieces (such as name, brand, type, colours and seasons) and the weather forecast are sent so it can pick outfits. No photos and no location.
Anthropic and OpenAI don't use data sent through their APIs to train their models, and keep it only for a limited time to check for abuse. See Anthropic's privacy policy and OpenAI's privacy policy.
Weather and location
Location is optional. If you allow it, Hanger reads your approximate location and rounds it to about a kilometre, then sends it from your phone directly to Apple Weather (WeatherKit) to get the forecast for Today. It isn't sent to our server or to the AI providers. See Apple's privacy policy. Without location you can still use everything else.
What we store when you sign in
Signing in with Apple is optional and only needed to keep your closet on more than one device. If you sign in, we store:
- Your Sign in with Apple account ID, held by our sign-in service (Supabase Auth). Hanger doesn't ask Apple for your name or email. This sign-in service is shared with other apps from the same developer, so the same account ID may appear there. We don't use it for anything else.
- Your closet: each piece's details and pictures (including the original photo), your outfits and their try-on images, and your profile (name, try-on photo and categories).
Pictures are kept in private storage that only your signed-in account can read. They aren't public, can't be listed or opened by anyone else, and other Hanger users never see them.
Hanger Plus and allowances
Hanger includes a free allowance of enhances and try-ons, and Hanger Plus adds a monthly allowance. To keep track, our server stores a random ID for your install of the app, your account ID if you're signed in, how many enhances and try-ons have been used, and whether you have Plus. These records hold no photos or closet details.
Our server also uses your IP address to limit abuse. It's kept in an hourly counter that's deleted within a day.
Purchases
Hanger Plus is bought through Apple, which handles your payment. We never see your card or payment details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat receives your Hanger account ID (or the random install ID if you're not signed in) and your purchase details from Apple, so the app and our server can tell whether Plus is active. It doesn't receive your name or email from us. See RevenueCat's privacy policy and Apple's privacy policy.
When you contact us
If you send a message with the form on our support page, we store the message, the topic you picked and your reply email if you gave one. We use it only to reply and to fix problems. You can ask us to delete your messages at any time.
Who processes it
Supabase hosts our server, database, private storage and sign-in service, on servers that may be outside Canada, including in the United States. Anthropic and OpenAI run the AI features, on servers outside Canada, mainly in the United States. Apple Weather provides the weather. Apple provides Sign in with Apple and the App Store. RevenueCat manages subscription status. They process data only to provide those services. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking services, and we don't sell or share your data for advertising.
Keeping and deleting
On your phone: deleting a piece or outfit removes it from the app, and deleting the app removes everything stored on the phone.
When you're signed in, a piece you delete disappears from all your devices, but its details and pictures stay in your private account storage until you delete your account.
To delete your account, open Settings in Hanger and choose Delete Account. That immediately and permanently deletes your closet, outfits, profile and pictures from our server. The clothes on your phone stay unless you delete them. The allowance and Plus records described above are kept so the free allowance can't be reset, and they hold only random IDs and counts. Because the sign-in service is shared with other apps, Hanger doesn't delete the shared sign-in record (your Apple account ID); you can ask us to erase it using the contact form. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription: do that in your iPhone's Settings.
Children
Hanger isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child under 13 is using Hanger with an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
You can see and change your closet in the app, delete your account data at any time, and ask us about your data. This policy is meant to meet Canadian privacy law, including British Columbia's, and we'll respond promptly to requests to access, correct or delete your information.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app.
